Drop Bear bonfire stout
2019 was a pivotal year for alcohol-free beers as a number of new and exciting drink brands were born including the much-heralded Welsh company Drop Bear.
Since their launch Drop Bear has been on a mission to create the best of the best when it comes to alcohol-free craft beers … and Bonfire Stout is one of these.
I don’t get to review too many stouts as they are less common than the lagers and IPA but when one comes along that uses ‘smoked malt’ as a key ingredient … well sparks are about to fly. Read what I think of this alcohol-free stout below.
Is Drop Bear Bonfire stout any good?
Taste
Wow, this has some flavour! I mean wow. If you’re a fan of sultry, smoky stouts then you’ve got to try this. For me, though it was just a bit too smoky and bitter to finish off a whole can and I would prefer a lighter fruitier beer like their IPA. Along with the smoke you also pick out other tastes including coffee and liquorice.
Aroma & Appearance
Bonfire pretty much smells like it tastes … smokey! That said you do get whiffs of chocolate and malt. It is one of the darkest stouts around adding to the experience. Although it isn’t too carbonated it actually has a really good frothy head.
Bonus points
Bonfire is both vegan friendly and gluten-free and fairly low in calories. Availability-wise you can get Dro Bear’s Bonfire in most supermarkets and alcohol-free specialists.
