Drink review – Hammerton’s ZED non-alcoholic pale ale is one for the bitter flavour fans thanks to its combination of punchy hops. Overall it’s a decent refreshing beer but could have done with some sweetness to cut through.
I’ve tried a couple of other Hammerton non-alcoholic beers in the past including a peanut butter milk stout and a chocolate fudge cake stout, both of which were pretty decent. So I was excited when I came across a can of ZED, Hammerton’s non-alcoholic pale ale.
For those who haven’t had the opportunity to read my previous Hammerton reviews, they are a London-based brewer who has created a number of exciting beers with a special focus on stouts and sours.
ZED non-alcoholic pale ale is 0.5% ABV and is brewed using a combination of Citrus, Amarillo and Columbus hops to create that thirst-quenching bitter-sweet pale ale flavours. to give a crisp, refreshing and easy-drinking Pale Ale.
If you happen to be in Islington, London then take a detour to their taproom and try it out yourself
So, the question is, is this pale ale as good as Hammerton’s non-alcoholic stouts? Well, you’ll just need to read my review below to find out.
Non-Alcoholic Zed Pale Ale Any Good?
Taste
ZED non-alcoholic pale ale certainly has some positive characteristics such as a crisp taste and well-balanced carbonation. However, I found it a bit too bitter (probably due to the Amarillo hops). Don’t get me wrong, it is drinkable but ZED just needed a little sweetness to cut through.
Aroma & Appearance
When you crack open a can of ZED you are immediately hit by strong citrus and pine aromas. In the glass, this beer has a light amber look with a low frothy head.
