Clean G – Alcohol-free gin
CleanCo is a relatively new alcohol-free spirits company having been founded in 2019 however they have taken the world by storm and have gone on to create a number of non-alcoholic alternatives to your favourites including Clean G alcohol-free gin alternative.
Clean G is made using a traditional and effective distillation process which has enabled the folks at CleanCo to create some realistic drinks with no alcohol and a low-calorie count.
As a fan of gin and tonics, I had high expectations on what this alcohol-free, award-winning gin would taste like … so I poured a shot of Clean G into a glass added some Indian tonic and ice and took a glug.
Is Alcohol-Free Clean G any good?
Wow. I mean wow. Are you telling me this isn’t a full-strength gin I’m drinking?? Clean G is remarkable in how it has recreated the taste of gin so perfectly. According to their site, they spent a vast amount of time improving the juniper flavouring and I think the hard work has certainly paid off as you can really taste the juniper and botanicals without it being too overpowering. When mixed with the tonic and ice it created a very refreshing and crisp GnT that I would have two or three off … without a hangover. Genius!
Aroma & Appearance
Clean G was very aromatic and I found it quite tropical on the nose. If you were to smell this Vs a traditional alcoholic gin you’ll likely pick out Clean G as it does smell a little more artificial but it wasn’t unpleasant. When poured out of the green bottle into a glass it had the look and flow of a regular gin.
Given the name CleanCo you can expect this drink to be friendly to most health-conscious drinkers. It is vegan friendly and both glucose and lactose free with a very low-calorie count (just 14 for every 50ml vs 123 for an alcoholic gin). I also really like the packaging. They’ve gone with a classy, almost art deco emerald green bottle that would look great on any cocktail shelf or bar.
