Christmas Raspberry & Custard Non-alcoholic Beer
Just in time for the festive season I’ve come across this Christmas Raspberry and Custard beer from Amundsen.
If you’ve not come across Amundsen before they are the largest brewery in Oslo, Norway. Amundsen has a great selection of beers across a core staple range as well as a bunch of specials including a ‘desert series’. This alcohol-free Christmas beer I tried today is part of their seasonal selection.
This particular beer is actually a Berliner Sour. They use standard beer ingredients (water, yeast, hops and barley) and then add additional ingredients to bring to the life the classic flavours of Xmas.
So the question is is this non-alcoholic beer going to be a Ho Ho Ho or a No No No? Well, you’ll just need my review below to find out.
Is this Alcohol-free Xmas beer any good?
Taste
Similar to other fruity/ dessert alcohol-free beers I’ve tried recently, this one by Amundsen is packed with loads of interesting flavours. You certainly get a background of hoppy beer flavours on first sip and soon after drinking you pick out rich raspberry flavours too. I don’t really get any custard vibes from this but there is a slight creamy, vanilla edge. Overall its an interesting combo and works well for a special occasion but wouldn’t be a regular go-to for me given its rather decadent flavour.
Aroma & Appearance
There are some punchy aromas arising from a can of Christmas Raspberry & Custard beer especially red fruit flavours and hops. As you can see, in the glass it has a rich red colour (similar to other sours) along with a decent frothy head.
Additional info
Firstly, I just want to point out the cool graphics that Amundsen have used on the can – definitely brings out the festive spirit with Santa in his shades. Its worth noting that this non-alcoholic beer is not going to be suitable for either lactose or gluten-free drinkers. Availability-wise you need to take into account the fact its a seasonal special drink and you may struggle to locate a can outside the EU/UK.
