Drink review – Mavrik has created a very tasty alcohol-free espresso martini. Premixed in a can this mocktail is perfect when chilled and poured into a martini glass.
It’s that time of the year when things begin getting a bit festive … including the drinks! So given its party season I thought I would try out Mavrik’s Espresso Martini (this is the second alcohol-free espresso martini I’ve tried albeit the last one I had was made from scratch from Lyre’s Coffee Liqueur).
Mavrik is a UK drinks company that was set up by three pals Hugo, Tony and Andrew. They wanted to create a range of alcohol-free, low-calorie cocktails that can be drunk without the accompanying hangover. Currently, there are six different non-alcoholic cocktails to try including a Mojoito, Dark and Stormy, Spritz and the Espresso Martini I tried today.
Espresso Martini’s are one of my favourite cocktails as I’m a bit of a coffee nerd. To make a classic espresso martini you normally take sugar syrup and mix with ice, vodka, a shot of espresso and coffee liqueur. However, in this instance, it came ready to drink in a 250ml can.
Mavrik’s version is a smooth nitro-infused alcohol-free Espresso Martini made using a blend of spring water, fructose and vanilla, espresso and dark chocolate to recreate this classic.
So the question is is this Espresso martini perfect as a pre-dinner drink or one destined for the sink? Well, you’ll just need my review below to find out.
Is Mavrik’s Espresso Martini any good?
Taste
This non-alcoholic espresso martini is actually quite tasty. Imagine if you will a glass of chocolate Nesquick with a slightly acidic edge. It certainly has some great chocolate and coffee flavours but if I’m honest lacks the smoothness of a freshly poured espresso martini. Overall though, a recommended drink to enjoy on a night out.
Aroma & Appearance
You certainly get some bold coffee aromas when cracking open a can with some background vanilla notes. In the glass it pours with a dark body and reasonably frothy head.
Bonus points
Mavrik drinks are deserving of their multiple award wins – especially this espresso martini. The drinks have zero alcohol and relatively low in calories. Availability-wise if you are in the UK/ EU then you have a greater chance of finding a can of this.
