Smashed Citrus beer
This is the second Drynks beer I’ve tried (the last one being their alcohol-free lager, Smashed, which scored well) and this time I tried their Smashed Citrus beer.
This Cheshire based brewer has begun to build up quite the reputation (especially after their feature on TV’s Dragons Den) so I was excited to try out this unique flavoured beer. Like other brewers, Drynks creates full-strength alcoholic drinks then removes said alcohol through the use of distillation; in which they have invested a significant amount.
The alcohol-free citrus beer is created using English hops along with barley and wheat so the citrus element is likely to come from adding citric acid to the mix.

Is Smashed Citrus beer any good?
Taste
If you used to add citrus to your drinks such as a squeeze of lemon or lime then Drynk’s Smashed Citrus beer is going to be a great match for you. On first taste, you get an immediate hit of lemons which could get overwhelming but thankfully the malt and bitter hop flavours come to the foreground helping to balance out the drink. Carbonation is tight with a good body and reasonably dry finish resulting in a refreshing beer.
Aroma & Appearance
As expected, similar to the taste, the aroma of this citrus beer was very lemony and floral. In the glass, the beer had a golden amber look and a decent head (soon dissipated).
Bonus points
Although this beer is suitable for vegans and 0% alcohol, it isn’t suitable for gluten-free drinkers and it is worth noting that the sugar levels are particularly high (16g per 330 ml). Availability-wise you are more likely to find Drynks beers at online retailers or via the Drynk’s site itself.
