Alcohol-free Hofmeister beer
Now, some of my younger readers are probably not aware of the Hofmeister ‘Follow the bear’ ads that ran during the 80s and 90s but back then Hofmeister was a well-known brand at the local boozer. However, over the years, Hofmeister has undergone various buy-outs and in 2016 it was relaunched by two friends.
Hofmeister remains a British-owned company however their beers are brewed and fermented in the beer heartland of Germany – Bavaria. Along with their award-winning alcoholic beer, they have gone on to produce a non-alcoholic beer – Hofmeister Ultra Low – which I tried today.
Made using locally sourced barley and punchy Hallertau Hops this Helles lager is created to be crisp and refreshing without the alcohol.
So the question is, will I be following the bear and waiting in line for another alcohol-free Hofmeister or telling Yogi to go do one? Well, you’ll just need my review below to find out.
Is Alcohol-free Hofmeister beer any good?
This is a pretty tasty non-alcoholic beer from an established brand. There are certainly some decent hop flavours that add quite a bit of bitterness to the beer. For me it lacks a bit of body and does taste a bit watery however the carbonation is pretty tight. If you are looking for a solid Helles tasting alcohol-free beer then this is a good choice.
Aroma & Appearance
There are some nice malty notes that come from this beer when you pop open a bottle. As you can see from the image above it pours with a light amber colour and a decent frothy head.
This beer is suitable for vegans but not gluten free drinkers, its ABV is just 0.5%. Availability-wise this beer is pretty common on certain supermarkets such as Ocado or you can locate a bottle at an oline specialist store.
Buy Alcohol-free Hofmeister beer
At the time of writing, your best bet to find a can of this beer is either at a supermarket, online specialist or from Hofmeister’s site itself.
