Review – Compared to other non-alcoholic or low-alcohol spirits, Seedlip’s Grove 42 doesn’t really compete. The body simply isn’t there likely due to the amount of filtration that goes into making this a ‘healthy’ drink. If you’re having a summer BBQ then making up some cocktails such as the Light and Breezy would be great as it made for a refreshing accompaniment but personally, I prefer an alcohol-free spirit with a bit more substance/ bite.

Seedlip, founded only a few years back, are an interesting bunch who have gone on to help pioneer distilled alcohol-free and sugar-free spirits. They use a six-week distillation, filtration, and blending process to ensure their botanical collection has no alcohol in it and still has a distinctive taste and aroma.

At the time of writing there are currently three key Seedlip products – Garden 108, Spice 94 and the one we’ll be reviewing today … Grove 42.

Seedlip Grove 42 has been created primarily to be mixed with other ingredients (although I did try it neat) so there are numerous ways to create an alcohol-free cocktail. In the review below I added Grove 42 to Fever-Tree Ginger Ale and some ice cubes to make a ‘Light and Breezy’.

Is SEEDLIP grove 42 any good?

Taste

Trying this out neat I’ve got to say it was pretty disappointing. Foolishly I was expecting something with some punch, like a traditional spirit but in fact, Seedlip tasted more like a watered-down cordial. Ok, there are subtle notes of orange and ginger but it had no ‘body’ to it. That said when I added it to the ginger ale and added some ice it became a very refreshing cocktail but if you think this is a gin-like alternative you’ll be sorely mistaken.

Aroma & Appearance

Seedlip had a faint citrus aroma which was fairly pleasant and when poured out into a glass it gave a clear consistency.

Bonus points

You buy Seedlip Grove 42 in 70 cl bottles and they are pretty commonly found in most supermarkets.  The good news is that this drink is vegan friendly as well as being gluten, alcohol, sugar and calorie-free – so knock yourselves out. Got to also give credit to the branding/ packaging as it is complimentary to the ethos of the product.
