Two of my favourite words – peanut butter and stout – so when I came across this alcohol-free peanut butter stout beer by Hammerton Brewery called CRUNCH I had to give it a go. Winter is of course the ultimate time of the year to enjoy a decadent stout beer so it didn’t take much persuasion to get this one from Alcohol Free Co.
Hammerton Brewery was created over a decade ago in London, UK by beer lover Lee. Since its establishment, the brewery has gone on to make a number of exciting and award-winning beers one of which is the alcohol-free peanut butter stout I tried today.
Their alcoholic (5.3%) peanut butter stout has remained a core staple of Hammerton’s so its no real surprise that an alcohol-free version was on the cards.
The question is, is this non-alcoholic version of the much-hyped, award-winning stout worthy of a place on MyDryBar? Well, you’ll just need to read my review below to find out.
Is Hammerton’s Peanut butter stout any good?
Taste
Yes, this is a tasty non-alcoholic stout. Crunch retains a subtle sweetness that enhances the overall experience, and the lactose addition adds a creamy sweetness. There are of course peanut flavours but they aren’t overwhelming and there is a background bitterness and velvety chocolate flavours that helps cut through the richness and the carbonation is spot on. Overall a great alcohol-free stout and one I shall be coming back to.
Aroma & Appearance
Upon bringing the glass to the nose, you get a good aroma of roasted peanuts, malt and hints of chocolate. In the glass it pours with the classicly dark stout colour and a low frothy head.
