Drink review – I think old Mout’s alcohol-free ciders will appeal to drinkers who are looking for a super sweet fruity drink but if you’re after a more ‘grown-up’ alcohol-free cider then the likes of Thatchers and Stowford Press are going to be better options for you.
Just in time for summer I’ve gone and found a bottle of alcohol-free Old Mout Cider … pineapple and raspberry flavour to be precise.
Old Mout was first established way back in the 1940s when a New Zealander, Wanda Tait, decided to go to England for a cycling trip and discovered how great English scrumpy was. As a result, when Wanda came back to NZ she set up he own cider company and Old Mout was born. Since then Old Mout has gone on to create seven refreshing fruit ciders including two alcohol-free ones (the other being berries and cherries).
This alcohol-free cider expertly fuses the tart raspberry flavours with the tropical sweet pineapple to create a unique tasting cider. The question is, is it one you want on a warm summer evening. Well, you’ll just need to read my review below to find out.
Is alcohol-free Old Mout any good?
Taste
Put it this way, if you enjoy super sweet drinks then Old Mout’s pineapple and raspberry cider is going to be a perfect match. To be honest it’s like drinking a kids soft drink (which I suppose it is) as there is no ‘bite’ that you would get from an alcoholic cider. You certainly get some bold tropical fruit flavours (especially pineapple) but it is just too sweet for me.
Aroma & Appearance
The sweet aromas fill the nostrils when you pop the cap on this cider. In the glass, it has an opaque pink colour and low carbonation.
Bonus points
Well, the good news is that Old Mout alcohol-free ciders are both vegan-friendly and suitable for gluten-free drinkers and compared to alcoholic ciders it is relatively low in calories. It isn’t the easiest flavour to find but I did manage to find it at a Sainsbury’s.
Buy alcohol-free old mout
At the time of writing, you can buy this alcohol-free cider from both supermarkets and online specialists.
