Welcome Skate Store IPA
Welcome Skate IPA beer is part of Northern Monk’s ‘Patron’ initiative. Northern Monks themselves are a UK brewer based in Leeds who create a great number of unique and interesting beers from core staples to limited editions. Their Patron program helps to “foster collaboration, creativity and community” resulting in an eclectic mix of beers.
Welcome Skate itself is an alcohol-free IPA (although there is an alcoholic version of this too) which came about through a collaboration with Leeds skate store, Welcome. If you’re wondering, it is Patron Program 22.05 in the series.
They have used a variety of hops including Amarillo and El Dorado hops as well as Munich malt to create a feisty, citrus beer.
So was this collaboration one for the record books or one to be forgotten? Well, you’ll just need to read my review below to find out.
Is Welcome Skate IPA any good?
Taste
This alcohol-free beer certainly tastes very different to many other IPAs I’ve had in the past. If you’re looking for a hoppy and citrus-tasting beer this could be a good choice. The combination of hops is particularly punchy and there is a nice bitter finish to the beer. On the downside, there is a ‘chemically’ edge to it but after a few glugs, you don’t really notice. Overall a refreshing alcohol-free IPA.
Aroma & Appearance
When you crack open a can of Welcome Skate Store IPA you’ll get an immediate hit of citrus and tart hop aromas with a background of pine. In the glass, this IPA has a cloudy lemon look with low carbonation and a little head to it.
Bonus points
Bonus points for the cool retro skateboard design. I used to collect skateboards for their art as a kid so I appreciate the branding. It is actually remarkably hard to find the ingredients/ dietary guidance on this beer. It is vegan-friendly as it does not have lactose but it is not suitable for gluten-free drinkers. It is also remarkably hard to find but the most likely place is from an alcohol-free specialist.
Buy Welcome Skate Store
A very hard beer to track down, your best chance is through an online speciliast.
The Dry Drinker is a great allrounder when it comes to alcohol-free drinks with a great range of wines, beers and spirits.
