Northern Monk Pale Ale

If you’ve not across the Northern Monk brand before they are an independent Leeds (UK) based brewery who, since their creation in 2013, has gone on to produce many great beers, becoming a fan’s favourite.

Although the majority of beers Northern Monk make are alcoholic they have gone down the alcohol-free route and created ‘Holy Faith’ the pale ale I reviewed today.

Holy Faith pale ale has been created in the same style as their punchy ‘Faith’ (5.4%) beer, using ingredients such as oats as well as barley malt, hops (Citra and El Dorado) and yeast for the brewing process.

This alcohol-free beer proves popular on UnTappd but is it one I’ll be going back to? Well, you’ll just need to read the review below to find out.

Is Northern Monk ‘Holy Faith’ any good?

Taste

As expected from a pale ale beer, hops and citrus flavours are the key flavours. It has a good balance of bitterness and malty sweetness thanks to the combination of hops used (Citra and El Dorado). The beer has a decent enough body but could do with a bit more carbonation running through it. Overall Holy Faith is a tasty and refreshing pale ale.

Aroma & Appearance

You get some interesting citrus fruit and hoppy notes when you crack open this beer is beer, pouring with a cloudy amber look. As a bonus, there was also a half-decent frothy head to it.

Bonus points

This beer by Northern Monk is vegan friendly but due to ingredients is not gluten-free. For those wanting to try this beer the good news is that it’s now readily available in a number of places including supermarkets as well as online specialists.
