Drink review – In my mind Cimicky’s alcohol-free red wine is the best tasting non-alcoholic wine I’ve had. Sweet and tasty its more like a cordial than a wine but its still very tasty. Recommended drinking.
When I first came across alcohol-free Cimicky wine I thought this was another drink with a cheesy pun in its name (cimicky sounds like gimicky) but actually, Cimicky is one of Australia’s oldest wineries based in the Barossa Valley.
Along with classic wines Cimicky has created a couple of non-alcoholic red wines. The still version of Cimicky Zero as well as a sparkling red wine I tried today.
In the words of Cimicky, this non-alcoholic red wine has the flavour profile of a tasty Shiraz wine. They create this drink using their winemaking experience and then applying the latest de-alcoholising technology to retain the properties of the wine.
Now, I’ve heard all this before about AF wines, so the simple question I’ll ask is is this award-winning (silver at the World Alcohol Free Awards) a decent tipple to enjoy or one destined for the sink? Well, you’ll just need to read my review below to find out.
Is Cimicky Alcohol-free wine any good?
Taste
Woah there. I enjoyed this alcohol-free wine! Now before everyone falls off their chairs in surprise let me explain why this is. If you are aware of sparkling Ribena (a blackcurrant drink) then you’ll find the taste of Cimicky wine very familiar. You get lots of fruity, sweet flavours with a very subtle acidic edge. Arguably it tastes like a sweet, sparkling cordial drink rather than a glass of classic Shiraz but it was still very drinkable as an alcohol-free alternative to red wine.
Aroma & Appearance
Big aromas of red fruits infiltrate the nostril when you pop the cork on this carbonated bottle of Cimicky. In the glass, it has a dark red colour of a Shiraz or Malbec.
Bonus points
This alcohol-free sparkling wine should please most drinkers thanks to it having zero percent alcohol and it being gluten-free. That said although there is no added sugar, sugar content is already still pretty high. Availability-wise is the biggest challenge. I found it at an online retailer so your best bet is to track down a bottle of Cimicky AF online.
