Drink review – Non-alcoholic Sagres is a great beer thanks to its unique blend of malts and hops. Expect a dry, refreshing finish from this lager, making it a great accompaniment to a BBQ.
Firstly I wanted to flag that this is my 200th non-alcoholic drink review. For more info on the journey I’ve had in this world, then check out the article I wrote. Back to the drink in hand, I was excited to come across non-alcoholic Sagres as I was a big fan of this beer when I visited Portugal a few years back.
Sagres is a Portuguese lager that was first produced by the SCC brewery back in 1940 however this company was bought by Heineken in 2008. In 2012 Sagres Zero was launched after the increase in consumption of alcohol-free beers. Thanks to a combination of malts (60% malt and 40% wheat) you can expect a refreshing flavour with the alcohol stripped out.
So, the question is, is Sagres Zero as refreshing and tasty as its alcoholic version? Well, you’ll just need to read my review below to find out.
Is Alcohol-free Sagres Any Good?
Taste
Well, I am pleased to say that I really enjoyed this beer. Thankfully Sagres Zero had very familiar tasting notes to the alcoholic version i.e. it has fresh, lightly hopped flavours with a bitter edge; resulting in a refreshing mouthful which has you reaching for another glug. If you’re in the market for a decent non-alcoholic lager then you can’t go too wrong with Sagres Zero.
Aroma & Appearance
You certainly get a noseful of hops aromas when you crack open of non-alcoholic Sagres. In the glass, you can see this beer pours with a medium dark amber colour and a decent forthy head.
