Alcohol-free cuba libre
Cuba Libre. A classic cocktail. The idea, it seems, sprung out of the rum-loving country of Cuba back in the early 20th century and since then has become a bit of a classic. As such it isn’t a great shock that CleanCo have decided to create a premixed version – Clean Cuba Libre.
If you’re not yet aware of how to make a Cuba Libre you simply take 1 part rum alongside 3 parts coke and add plenty of ice. Of course, there are subtle variants to this such as the inclusion of lime but in essence, the simplicity of this cocktail makes it such as hit.
What CleanCo has done is use their spiced alcohol-free spirit, Clean R, and mixed it with cola to create the clean ‘Cuba Libre’. I recently tried Seedlip’s Grove 94 premixed cocktail which was actually pretty decent but how did my first CleanCo premix go down? Well, you’ll just need to read the review below to find out.
Is this alcohol-free Cuba Libre any good?
Wow, are you telling me this isn’t an alcoholic Cuba Libre? It’s insane. So realistic, in fact, it almost tastes stronger than the real thing. You can really taste Clean R’s spicy Jamiacan alternative rum paired well with the cola. My one gripe is that the cola itself wasn’t the greatest taste, was a bit too sweet for my liking but it was still very tasty. I can imagine giving out these cocktails blind-tested to see if people could taste the difference.
Aroma & Appearance
Clean Cuba Libre both looked and smelt like the real thing – spicy, tangy aroma mixed with the carbonation of the cola.
Check out the packaging, pretty decent, the CleanCo brand always surpasses my expectations when it comes to the branding and design of their products. This premixed alcohol-free (well it is actually alcohol low at 0.5%) is vegan-friendly and gluten-free with reduced sugar and comes out at just 62 calories a can. It isn’t the easiest cocktail to locate but you can find it from some select supermarkets and online retailers.
