Drink review – Haelu non-alcoholic cocktails are designed to enhance your mood without the use of alcohol. Full of vitamins, minerals and adaptogens this makes for an interesting tasting experience. Certainly a recommended drink if you have given up alcohol and looking for something different.
Haelu is a new drink producer who have created a number of non-alcoholic drinks with added benefits.
Haelu was founded in 2020 by Stuart, Rod and Jamie from the UK. They wanted to collectively change their drinking habits by enhancing mood but avoiding alcohol. As such they spent over a year testing and trialing a number of combinations before coming up with two non-alcoholic cocktails were created – Salerno Spritz and the Havana Heat I tried today.
To trigger feelings of happiness and wellbeing each Haelu drink has a blend of 12 adaptogens and vitamins – the perfect boost for body and mind. Havana Heat itself is designed to be similar to a classic Dark and Stormy cocktail so expect warm and comforting rum flavours.
The question is is Haelu another flash in the pan or a long-term player in the alcohol-free sector. Well, you’ll just have to read my review below to find out.
Is Haelu any good?
Taste
Haelu certainly had an interesting taste to it that is quite unique to anything I’ve tried before. Botanical flavours are certainly in the forefront and that’s likely due to the number of vitamins, minerals and adaptogens that are included. Personally, I don’t get too many rum notes from Havana Heat but there is a background chili taste which again adds to its uniqueness. Overall a pretty tasty and interesting alcohol-free cocktail.
Aroma & Appearance
Warming, organic aromas fill the nose when you open a can of Haelu’s Havana Heat. In the glass as you can see it has a medium amber colour reminiscent of a rum and Coke.
Bonus points
As expected, given their wellbeing credentials, Haelu is appropriate for most drinkers as its low calorie with no added sugar, gluten-free and vegan friendly. Your biggest challenge is going to be findin a can if you are outside the EU as its pretty hard to come by.
