Marie Laveau Alcohol-Free Rum
Over the last few months I’ve come across quite a number of alcohol-free spirit alternatives so was excited when this alcohol-free rum was delivered. The drink is actually the creation of Craig Hutchinson and Maria Sehlstrom (founders of Ceders) who have based this rum on the infamous New Orleans Voodoo Queen. Just like her character Marie Laveau alcohol-free rum is a complex, bold and vibrant drink and perfect with a mixer.
Like other spirit creators, they have combined a number of spices and botanicals to create a warm and smooth taste to replicate a classic spiced rum. Expect a warm, vanilla and spicy drink.
I drank this after pouring it into a glass with a Coke and ice. So is Marie Laveau voodoo magic or one to be avoided? Well, you’ll just need to read the review below to find out.
Is Marie Laveau any good?
This is actually pretty tasty and is somewhat more realistic than lets say Anon spiced rum. With Marie Laveau, you get a slight tingly spiciness on the tongue which helps recreate the feeling of a spirit. Realistically you’ll never get the fiery kick of an alcoholic rum but it’s still a pretty good attempt. When mixed with a Coke this made for a pretty decent mocktail.
Aroma & Appearance
The aroma has similarities to a traditional spiced rum and you can pick out the spicy botanicals but also the sweet vanilla. The drink itself is a very light wheat colour.
Ok bonus points for the packaging. Loving the creepy voodoo queen graphic. Marie Laveau alcohol-free rum is both vegan-friendly and suitable for vegans and comes in at just 0.5% ABV. It isn’t the easiest drink to find in supermarkets but you can find it online.
