Coconut Grove Pale ale

Coconut Grove is a pale ale by German craft brewer Kehrwieder. The brewery was set up by a famous brewer in Germany – Olli Wesseloh – who after learning his craft in Germany and the US won the beer sommelier award; so he certainly knows a thing or two about creating beer.

Coconut Grove is an award-winning alcohol-free pale ale and isotonic which according to the Kehrwieder site is “super fruity, not bitter, wonderfully tropical, relaxed and serene”. In essence, they have tried to recreate Miami’s famous Coconut Grove district.

So did Coconut Grove live up to all the claims of its brewers? Well, you’ll just need to read my review below to find out.

Is Coconut Grove any good?

Taste

Coconut Grove is definitely one of the fruitiest beers I’ve tasted (well they did say it was fruity) and I picked out all sorts of fruit from pink grapefruit to pineapple. I really like the way the sweetness of the fruit balances out the bitterness to create a tasty and refreshing pale ale. Due to the fact this beer is heavy on oats you do get a light and creamy feel to it. Overall one of the best alcohol-free pale ales I’ve had so far.

Aroma & Appearance

Once opened the beer gives off a punchy aroma full of character. Imagine if you will walking into a deli and being hit by a cacophony of smells – that was what came out of the Coconut Grove bottle. Once poured into the glass it had a cloudy amber look with a decent head that stayed the course whilst it was being drunk.

Bonus points

It’s worth bearing in mind that Coconut Grove isn’t alcohol-free but is still low at just 0.4%. Sugars though are relatively high and so the calorie count on a 330ml bottle is greater than most. The biggest issue with this alcohol-free pale ale is that it is incredibly hard to find. You can find it at online specialists but you won’t be able to pick this up at general supermarkets.

Buy Coconut Grove

As mentioned this is a very tricky beer to find however you can purchase it from the online retailers below (whilst stocks last).
