Drink review – Unfortunately Hawkstone lacks both flavour and body making it a very watery and non-descript lager. Plenty of other good choices out there.
As a fan of Clarkson’s Farm (currently on Series 3) I was excited to come across non-alcoholic Hawkstone Spa lager.
If you are unaware Hawkstone have collaborated with Diddly Squat farm. Essentially a fortuitous meeting between Jeremy Clarkson and Rick Keene (chief brewer) has resulted in Hawkstone producing four different beers (from an IPA to Pils), a cider and even a vodka as well as an alcohol-free beer ‘Hawkstone Spa Lager’ which is what I tried today.
Hawkstone only uses the highest quality ingredients within their brewing production and, thanks to a process called lagering, they are able to produce smooth and mellow lagers … and of course with Spa, the alcohol is removed.
So, the question is, does this non-alcoholic beer get diddly squat points from me? Well, you’ll just need to read my review below to find out.
Is Hawkstone Spa Any Good?
Taste
Normally non-alcoholic lagers are pretty decent but I am afraid Hawkstone Spa falls far short. The issue I have with this beer is both its lack of flavour and lack of body resulting in a rather watery and lack- lustre drink. I am pretty gutted as I really wanted to like this beer given their backstory but I am afraid there are a lot better choices out there.
Aroma & Appearance
You do get some sweet hoppy aromas when you crack open a can of Hawkstone and in the glass it pours with a light amber colour and short head.
