Fun House IPA
Fun House IPA is a great alcohol-free New England India pale ale from the famous Dutch brewer Vandestreek. They were one of the first to get involved in alcohol-free beers and since then have made some award-winning alcohol-free beers including their IPA Playground (Brussels winner in 2021).
This time round I have taste-tested Fun House which, as an NEIPA is a more fruity and less bitter IPA. Interestingly, Fun House Fun House uses barley malt in the process and does not include the traditional ingredients you see in other beers such as rye, wheat, or oats which gives it a unique taste.
So what did I think of Vandestreek’s Fun House and is it worth trying? Read on to find out.
Is Fun House IPA any good?
Taste
As mentioned above New England IPA’s are generally fruitier than normal IPA’s and that’s definitely the case with Vandestreek’s Fun House. You can taste a number of different fruit when first tried especially oranges and I also caught a note of peaches too. It’s certainly got a tang. As you can see it isn’t the most carbonated of drinks but was still refreshing with a bitter edge. Overall a decent New England IPA but to be honest I think I could only get through one can of this in a session.
Aroma & Appearance
When poured into a glass Fun House is pretty flat and has a hazy look (like a cloudy apple juice). There’s a small head when poured but this soon dissipates. It also smells how it looks … orangey and tangy!
Bonus points
Check out the branding. Very cool. As a creative, I always appreciate someone who has put some work into product design. The beer itself is vegan-friendly but not gluten-free, it is also relatively high in calories Vs others. Fun House also isn’t the most accessible alcohol-free beer around but you can find it from select retailers.
