Drink review – Free Damm’s lemon lager is a great alcohol-free alternative to a shandy. Full of refreshing lemon and malty beer flavours this is a great drink for summer.
I reviewed Free damm lager last year and gave it a pretty decent score so I was excited to find they also create an alcohol-free lemon-flavoured lager.
Just as a reminder, Free Damm drinks are created by well-known Spanish brewery S. A. Damm (also make the famous Estrella beer).
This is actually the second non-alcoholic lemon beer I’ve had this month (having tried Istak’s offering). This lemon drink is made using non-beer which is then combined with a flavoured citrus soft drink and additional lemon juice to make this refreshing concoction.
So, the question is, is this alcohol-free beer one for the upcoming summer months or one to be left on the shelf? Well, you’ll just need to read below to find out.
Is Lemon Free damm beer any good?
Taste
Well, if you like a traditional shandy (lager topped with lemonade) then I think you’ll be impressed with FreeDamm’s offering. On first taste, you get the immediate hit of the malty lager beer which is immediately complimented by the sharp and tart lemon flavour. I found this to be a very easy drink to consume, it wasn’t too carbonated and overall made for a great addition to my curry. It may be a bit sweet for some but will be a good option for a summer BBQ.
Aroma & Appearance
You certainly get notes of lemon when you open the can. When poured into the glass it has a light cloudy amber look with actually quite a decent frothy head.
Bonus points
This drink is certainly one for those with dietary requirements as its suitable for vegans, and those who are gluten-free and it’s 0% ABV. The challenge you’ll have is finding it in the first place. A couple of supermarkets do stock it but the alcohol-free specialists seem to just stock the DAMM lager rather than the lemon variety.
