Drink review – Overall Kaiserdom’s Lemon Alcohol-free beer is a very tasty and refreshing drink. Harking back to the days when I used to mix up my lager with random soft drinks this version is tart, sweet, malty and hoppy all at the same time.
Kaiserdom are one of the oldest brewers we’ve featured on My Dry Bar having set up shop in Germany all the way back in 1718! Over the centuries Kaiserdom has remained a family-run, private brewery and has gone on to produce a number of popular beers.
One latest innovation is their new technology that had enabled Kaiserdom to de-alcoholise their beers. As such there are now four different alcohol-free beers to choose from including a lager, wheat, pink grapefruit and this one I tried today … their lemon beer.
They have created this refreshing drink by combining 50% Kellerbier beer along with 50% lemon and haven’t had to add any artificial sweeteners. This mix of ingredients is actually known as a ‘radler’ (similar to a shandy) and the perfect drink for a summer’s evening.
So was it a ‘shake, radler, role’ or one to be forgotten? Well, you’ll need to read my review below to find out.
Is Kaiserdom Lemon any good?
Taste
Got to say I really enjoyed this drink. I was apprehensive at first as I thought it may be too sweet but Kaiserdom has got the balance right and managed to combine the tart, sweet lemon taste with the malty, hoppy taste of the beer. If you enjoyed a lager top back in the day then this beer would be one you would enjoy.
Aroma & Appearance
When you open a can of Kaiserdom lemon you are immediately hit with a … wait for it … the aroma of lemon! Thankfully it isn’t chemical smelling like other AF combo beers but has a lively aroma. In the glass, it pours with a cloudy amber colour and a large and consistent frothy head.
Bonus points
Like other alcohol-free German wheat beers, this is also isotonic with added vitamins. The beer is also applicable for most drinkers as it is vegan-friendly and has zero alcohol (not suitable for gluten-free drinkers I’m afraid). The biggest issue with this beer is its availability, your best bet is to find it at an online specialist.
