Drink review – Clausthaler’s non-alcoholic grapefruit is a refreshing bittersweet drink to accompany a meal or summer BBQ. Sweet and sour and full of great flavours, a recommend drink.
I tried Clausthaler’s lemon beer last year and was pleased by its refreshing and tart flavours so when I came across Clausthaler’s alcohol-free grapefruit drink I knew I had to try it.
As a reminder to those who didn’t read my last review, Clausthaler is one of the world’s oldest producers of alcohol-free and malt beverages (going back almost 50 years) and has built up quite a reputation for producing tasty drinks.
To produce this drink they use a mix of 50% Clausthaler Original and blend it with 50% grapefruit drink to create this unique concoction.
So, the question is, is this another hit for Clausthaler or a grape too far? You’ll just need to read my review below to find out.
Is Clausthaler grapefruit any good?
Taste
Although I am not the biggest fan of grapefruit (just find it too tart and sour) actually this drink really works. I was unexpecting the grapefruit flavours to overpower the lager but in fact, they balance out well with a nice combo of sweet malt and bitter grapefruit. It isn’t too carbonated so having more than one is no big ordeal. This really is a refreshing drink and one I would happily sip under the sun.
Aroma & Appearance
You certainly pick out citrus vibes when popping open the bottle and in the glass, it pours with an orangy/pink colour.
Bonus points
This beer is vegan-friendly but not suitable for gluten-free drinkers as it contains barley. Thankfully Clausthaler has done a good job of ensuring their drinks can be enjoyed around the world and it isn’t particularly hard to track down their products.
