Review – Talonmore is a unique tasting, fiery alcohol-free spirit, which, when added to ice makes for a delicious non-alcoholic cocktail. Recommended drinking.

Talonmore is part of the burgeoning alcohol-free spirit sector that has gone from strength to strength over the past few years. The Talonmore Drinks Company, is a family-run Edinburgh based company started by Lewis Kennedy and it’s their first alcohol-free spirit which I tasted today.

Talonmore isn’t attempting to recreate a classic spirit such as whisky but instead has created a unique and fiery dark spirit that is perfect as a winter warmer or refreshing summer cocktail. Talonmore is made up of a number of ‘super foods’ that help to create an alcohol-free drink with some bite. Ingredients include the likes of Assam team, ginger and prickly pear, hawthorn berry, and Assam tea

Although I did try it neat I enjoyed Talonmore more when I mixed it with a Fever-Tree tonic and added plenty of ice. So was this a case of ‘more, more, more’ or a flop to be avoided? Well, you’ll just need to read my review below to find out.

Is Talonmore any good?

Taste

Well, the first thing to say is that if you’re not a fan of fiery ginger this is probably a drink to avoid. Personally, I really enjoy the flavours of ginger so Talonmore was right up my alley. When the spirit was combined with the tonic it created a less intense but refreshing cocktail that was not too bitter or sweet and had well-balanced flavours. I actually had this drink along with a Thai red curry and it paired perfectly with the Asian flavours – recommended.

Aroma & Appearance

Pop the lid of the Talonmore bottle and you’re hit with the intense smells of ginger but with a subtle organic peppery aroma (which must be the tea) in the background. Once poured into the glass it has a cloudy’ish dark look to it and once a tonic has been added it makes for an interesting looking cocktail.

Bonus points

I enjoy the branding of this drink. Some strong graphic design there with the centre-piece being the eagle head (symbolises their strapline “Dare to Explore”). This alcohol-free spirit is perfect for vegan-friendly and gluten-free drinkers and it only uses natural ingredients that said it is heavier on the calories compared to other AF spirits. The one area that you may find frustrating is tracking it down in the first place. Check out their site or online specialists for availability.
