Drink review – This non-alcoholic CBD drink is the latest in several drinks containing this ingredient. Although there are some interesting gin vibes from this product, overall, the flavour doesn’t really appeal.
You may remember I recently reviewed an alcohol-free rum, Marie Laveau. Well, this rum is part of Mindful Brands’ portfolio as is the CBD botanical spirit by Maria & Craig I tried today.
You would have had to be living in a cave if you’re not aware of the CBD craze over the past few years. If you’re still unsure about what CBD is, its a chemical found in marijuana. How is it legal you ask? Well CBD doesn’t contain THC, the psychoactive ingredient found in marijuana, and in fact used to help produce a sense of calm, act as pain relief and even help sleep (click here for more benefits).
So what botanist magic have Maria and Craig conjured up? Well, they have taken a premium CBD with natural hemp and added distilled juniper, sage camomile and orange blossom to create a unique alcohol-free ‘gin/CBD’ spirit

I had a shot of this spirit along with a Fever Tree Indian tonic and plenty of ice. So, was I left feeling mellow and chilled? Well, you’ll just need to read my review below to find out.
Is CBD botanical any good?
Taste
Well, if you’re looking for something a bit different then Maria & Craig’s CBD spirit will tick that box. You can certainly taste the traditional gin flavour of juniper but there are other flavour profiles that are hard to pinpoint (especially around the bitter spectrum). Personally, the combination doesn’t really work for me – perhaps it’s the ‘earthy’ finish they mention on the site or perhaps it’s the CBD itself but there’s a taste that doesn’t appeal.
Aroma & Appearance
The aromas that escape the bottle are quite bitter and fruity (similar to the taste). In the glass, CBD spirit pours with a cloudy, refreshing look.
Bonus points
Ok bonus points are awarded for bringing something unique to the world of alcohol-free drinking. I couldn’t find any info on whether it is vegan-friendly or suitable for vegans. It isn’t the easiest drink to find, the best bet is to go to Maria & Craig’s site directly.
