Whisky sour mocktail recipe
The invention of the whisky sour goes all the way back to the 18th-century British sailors who added citrus to their allocation of rum to fend off scurvy (adding sugar and water to make it taste good). Over the centuries, the whisky sour has evolved and can include egg whites and bitters for a smooth texture.
Ingredients
* 50ml – REBELS 0.0% MALT BLEND –
–
* 30ml – lemon juice –
–
* 20ml – sugar syrup
–
* Ice cubes
–
* 1/2 egg white (optional)
*lemon zest
Method
Take the alcohol-free whisky, lemon juice, sugar syrup and shake together with ice. Add the egg white for an extra velvety texture. Serve in a sour (or rocks) glass and garnish with lemon zest.
OLD FASHIONED mocktail RECIPE
One of the most familiar whisky cocktails and one of my absolute favourites, the Old Fashioned, has been around since the early 1800’s. Named as such, as drinkers weren’t interested in swanky complex cocktails and wanted their drink served ‘the old-fashioned way’, away from bartenders’ increasingly complex concoctions. The Old Fashioned soon became a whisky legend … and now it can be enjoyed free of alcohol.
Ingredients
* 60ml – Lyre’s American Malt
–
* 5ml – white sugar syrup
–
* 2 dashes of aromatic bitters
–
* Cubed ice
Method
Stir the above ingredients together over crushed ice, serve and enjoy in a old fashioned glass. Garnish with a piece of orange peel to complete the picture.
Alcohol-free Manhattan recipe
This classic cocktail’s history is debated, but arguably The Manhattan Club story has the most credibility. It is said that in 1874 Winston Churchill’s mother had a party at the Mahattan Club and Dr. Iain Marshall created this cocktail for the occasion (although there is evidence Lady Randolph Churchill was actually in France). Whatever the story, this bittersweet cocktail remains a classic.
Ingredients
* 60ml Glen Dochus
–
* 30ml non-alcoholic sweet vermouth
–
* 2 dashes of aromatic or spiced cherry bitters
–
*orange peel
–
* ice cubes
Method
Combine all the above ingredients and stir together in a mixing glass. Squeeze the orange peel to disperse some aromatic oils and garnish with a cocktail cherry.
Alcohol-free Mint Julep Mocktail
This refreshing whisky cocktail originated all the way back to ancient Persia where various herbs and minerals were used to create medicinal tonics. Over the centuries, the cocktail evolved to include bourbon, mint, and ice, and most recently has been tied to the Kentucky Derby in 1938. Now you can enjoy a mint julep absolutely alcohol-free with the following recipe.
Ingredients
* 60ml – Sobour alcohol-free whisky
–
* 14ml – simple syrup
(make this by dissolving 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Bring to a boil and then let simmer)
–
* 8 x fresh mint leaves
–
* Crushed ice
Method
Add the mint leaves and syrup to a cocktail glass. Muddle until aromatic, then pour the alcohol-free whiskey into the glass. Fill the glass with crushed ice about ¾ of the way full, stir until the cup is frosted on the outside and garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.
Buy alcohol-free whisky
Alcohol-free whisky isn’t as common as rum or gin, but there are still a number of brands that have come out with both bourbons and scotch whisky. You are more likely to find a bottle of these spirits at an online specialist such as Masters of Malt or WiseBartender, but you can always locate specific brands on the producer’s site.
The following non-alcoholic gins are the ones featured above in the mocktail recipe list.

Alcohol-free Rebels 0.0 Malt
Alcohol-free Glen Dochus Blend
