Drink review – I can see why Small Beer IPA was a World Beer winner. Small in name. Big in flavour. Despite the low alcohol content, you still get a nice hoppy kick which is cut through with some citrus notes and a malty, biscuit finish. Definitely a good option if you are looking for a low alcohol refreshing IPA.
This is the third Small Beer I’ve tried since I began low to no alcoholic drinks; this time it’s the turn of the IPA, having previously reviewed Small Lager and Small Pale Ale both of whom were decent beers.
As mentioned in the last couple of reviews, Small Beer Brew Co. are based in London and focus on brewing low alcohol (around 2%) craft beers. There are currently four different varieties on offer including the IPA I tried today.
Small Beer’s IPA is an award-winning beer ( ) using only the finest British ingredients in its production. The beer is naturally gluten-free and comes in a 2.3% ABV.
So the question is, is this also a decent beer like the other Small Beer varieties I tried previously? Well, you’ll just need to read my review below to find out.
Is Small Beer IPA any good?
Taste
I can see why Small Beer IPA was a World Beer winner as it has some fantastic IPA qualities. Despite the low alcohol content, you still get a nice hoppy kick which is cut through with some citrus notes and a malty, biscuit finish. The carbonation was also spot on and it kept its head for quite a while. Definitely a good option if you don’t mind a small level of alcohol.
Aroma & Appearance
When you crack open a can of Small Beer IPA you get fruity hoppy aromas hitting your nose. In the glass, it has a dark amber look and a light frothy head.
Buy Small Beer IPA
Thankfully, if you are in the UK a number of supermarkets stock Small Beer. I got mine from Ocado.
