Drink review – ROAR was kind of ‘meh’ in terms of taste. Yes, it has some hoppy IPA flavours but I think they’ve focused more on the additional ingredients rather than trying to create a well-rounded, refreshing IPA; to be honest there are a lot better ones out there.
Another month, another non-alcoholic beer with added adaptogens. Not sure why I’ve come across so many recently (perhaps it’s a new year, new you trend) but ROAR, a non-alcoholic lion’s mane beer caught my eye.
ROAR is an IPA created by Exhale Nutrition, one of the UK’s leading hemp and functional mushroom providers. They have produced two non-alcoholic, vegan, gluten-free beers infused with functional mushrooms for taste and added health benefits. There is LAST ONE, a stout with reishi mushrooms and ROAR, a pale ale with Lion’s mane mushrooms that I tried today.
Previously I tried another alcohol-free Lion’s Mane by Fungtn which scored pretty well, but if you aren’t aware of the effects of this mushroom it’s worth me relaying. According to research Lion’s Mane can help fight stress, repair nerve cells, support a healthy gut and even help with weight loss … so a pretty impressive mushroom indeed. The guys at Exhale back up all their findings with scientific research, so have a read for the full facts.
So the question is, how will I feel after drinking a can of ROAR, as chilled out as they make out? Well, you’ll just need to read my review below to find out.
Is Alcohol-free ROAR any good?
Taste
To be honest, this was kind of ‘meh’ in terms of taste. Yes, it has some hoppy IPA flavours but I think they’ve focused more on the additional ingredients (Lion’s Mane) rather than trying to create a well-rounded, refreshing beer. Also worth pointing out I didn’t feel very different after drinking ROAR (not to say it wouldn’t work for others). Overall its a fairly bland alcohol-free ale and to be honest there are a lot better ones out there.
Aroma & Appearance
When you open up a can of ROAR you are greeted with some hoppy aromas. In the glass, it pours with a light amber look and a short frothy head.
