Drink review – Alcohol-free Kasteel Rouge certainly had a unique taste. I found it to be a mashup between a sour and a pale ale. You can certainly taste the cherry flavour with some nice hoppy notes and malty sweetness that cuts through.
I love a Belgian beer, so when I saw the iconic Kasteel Rouge had created an alcohol-free version, I knew I had to give it a go.
Kasteel beer has been made in Belgium for decades by the Kasteel brewery. Since the creation of this famous ruby beer they’ve gone on to produce various different Kasteel varieties, including Tropical, Donker and of course the 0.0 version.
Kasteel Rouge beer is made by combining their famous Donker (a dark brown caramel beer) along with Oblacinska cherries to create a unique, bittersweet, fruity beer; worth noting that Kasteel Rouge 0.0 has zero alcohol and is suitable for vegans.
So the question is, is the red a warning sign or one of love? Well, you’ll just need to read my review below to find out.
Is alcohol-free Kasteel Rouge any good?
Taste
Alcohol-free Kasteel Rouge certainly had a unique taste. I found it to be a mashup between a sour and a pale ale. You can certainly taste the cherry flavour with some nice hoppy notes and malty sweetness that cuts through. I did find it rather heavy though and I don’t think I could finish off more than one bottle but what I did have was a pretty tassty tipple indeed.
Aroma & Appearance
Lots of red berry aromas are released when you open up a bottle of Kasteel Rouge. In the glass it has a dark ruby appearance with a generous frothy head.
