Drink review – On the first sip there is some nostalgia to a Desperados beer but after a while I did find that it was just a bit too sweet and too lemony for my liking. Overall alcohol-free Desperados is a good thirst quencher but there are better alcohol-free lagers out there.
With its classic name and cool styling its no real surprise that an alcohol-free version of Desperados has been launched aka Desperados Lemon 0.0%.
Desperados, an agave (tequila) flavoured beer, was originally produced by French brewery, Fischer before being swallowed up by the behemoth that is Heineken (although it is now produced by Zlatý Bažant).
I remember drinking the alcoholic version well over a decade ago and found it to be a crisp tasty beer similar to a Corona. Desperados launched this alcohol-free version in Europe four years ago (although it was previously called Desperados Virgin – now Desperados Lemon).
This particular beer is flavoured with ‘citrus and lemon’ zest for some summer vibes and so should be a refreshingly tasty drink. However, the burning question is is it worthy of a place on My Dry Bar? Well, you’ll just need to read my review below to find out.
Is Alcohol-free Desperados any good?
Taste
On the first sip there is some nostalgia as the initial flavour is reminiscent of the Desperados I remember. That said, after a couple more gulps I did find that it was just a bit too sweet and too lemony for my liking. I suppose I should have expected it, given its name but wasn’t ready for how citrusy it was. Overall a good thirst quencher but there are better alcohol-free lagers out there.
Aroma & Appearance
Lemon aromas are the resounding focus when you pop open a bottle of alcohol-free Desperados. In the glass, this beer pours with a light amber look and a generously frothy head.
