Drink review – I wasn’t sure what to expect when I opened up a can of NuWave but I really liked it. The flavour was quite unique; probably due to the many different botanicals and biotics added. End of the day, did I feel more chilled out and sociable than normal? Not really, but this was still a tasty, crisp non-alcoholic lager I enjoyed drinking.

Whoop whoop – this is my 250th AF review … so without further ado let’s get into it. There has been a recent flurry of mood-enhancing non-alcoholic beers that have come my way and NuWave is certainly one of the more eye-catching of those beers.

NuWave are a relatively new drink creator based in Wetherby, UK who has created two innovative alcohol-free beers, a hazy pale ale and the AF lager I tried today.

To create their beers NuWave combines classic beer brewing ingredients (high quality malted barley, hops, yeast and purified water) with botanicals and biotics to give you a sociable buzz without the alcohol. Social you say? Well the team use ingredients that target the GABA-receptors in the brain, which is what happens after a couple of alcoholic drinks, making drinkers feel relaxed and chatty.

So what makes these guys different to others? Well firstly, in order to create their proprietary botanical blend they partnered with ADM (global leader in food tech) to help kit out the recipe with the right biotics, backed by science. The adaptogenic botanicals used include well-known ingredients Ashwagandha Root, Maca Root and Lions Mane. They also add Guarana Seed for energy benefits and pepper which assists absorption of botanicals in the gut.

So the question is, how chilled out and happy will I get after drinking NuWave’s lager? Well, you’ll just need to read my review below to find out.

Is NuWave Non-alcoholic beer any good?

Taste

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I opened up a can of NuWave but I really liked it. The flavour was quite unique, yes there were the traditional lager flavours (especially malt) but there was something else added that I liked; although it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to tell you it’s probably the many different botanicals and biotics added. End of the day did I feel more chilled out and sociable than normal? Not really, but this was still a tasty, crisp non-alcoholic lager I enjoyed drinking.

Aroma & Appearance

Nuwave had a fairly subtle smell to it, no noticeable aromas. In the glass it poured with a ligth amber look, head was disappointingly low.
