Drink review – Hands-down Villbrygg’s Nordic Tropics are the most uniquely flavoured non-alcoholic drinks I’ve come across. Each one encompasses a different Norwegian environment with FJELL (meaning mountain) being my favourite thanks to the combination of lingonberries, birch, rosemary and lemongrass.
I’ve reviewed a few non-alcoholic Norwegian drinks over the years, so was pleasantly surprised when a box of non-alcoholic Villbrygg sparkling wine was delivered to me.
Following a round of crowd-funding in 2018 Cornelia and Vanessa created the drinks company Villbrygg. Villbrygg according to their site “is a product development and marketing company that focuses on developing exciting non-alcoholic beverages based on Norwegian raw materials“.
They use natural and wild ingredients from their unique native flora (such as yarrow, birch leaves and meadowsweet) to create drinks that are a healthy alternative to the overloaded sugary drinks we’re all used to.
Villbrygg splits their offering into two areas. Choose either from Sparkling botanical drinks (ie FLYT, a sparkling elderflower) or Nordic tropics (the ones sent to me) where drinks use fermentation and infusion for the true taste of nature (ie ENG 02).
Their drinks are unique and complex, and each one can be compared well with different types of foods … and can be found in some of Norway’s Michelin-starred restaurants!

Are Villbrygg Drinks any good?
Taste
I was sent all three bottles of Nordic Tropic by Villbrygg and I can hands-down say they are very unique in their flavour profile. The three drinks encompass different elements of the Norwegian environment including SKOG (forest), FJELL (mountain) and ENG (meadow). My favourite was ‘FJELL’ which is a non-alcoholic carbonated drink made using lingonberries and combined with birch leaves, rosemary and lemongrass. Overall, the flavour profile was certainly complex but it was tasty and refreshing and worked well with the roast lamb.
Aroma & Appearance
The aromas from each of these non-alcoholic sparkling drinks were absolutely unique in their own way and with FJELL you really got lots of citrus and red berry notes. Each glass was subtly carbonated and had a cloudy’ish texture to them, especially ENG.
