As regular readers of MyDryBar know, I’ve tried quite a few different beers with added flavours but the use of agave is a new one to me. So when I saw Hepworth’s Aztec non-alcoholic lager, I knew I had to give it a try.

Hepworth is a Sussex-based UK brewery founded back at the beginning of the century. Since their creation, Hepworth has gone on to produce a number of beers from pale ales and IPAs to stouts and bitters however, it’s their two alcohol-free beers we’re interested in – Spartan ale and Aztec lager.

When it comes to producing Aztec lager Hepworth uses a combo of Czech and German hops and goes on to infuse it with agave syrup to create an interesting, citrus-tasting beer. If you are unclear on what agave is, it comes from the agave plant (looks a bit like a cactus) and is essentially used as a sweetener (similar to honey).

So the question is, is the addition of agave an ingenious touch or one that should be buried with the Aztecs?  Well, you’ll just need to read my review below to find out.
