Drink review – I was expecting more from this Sierra Nevada beer. I found this alcohol-free Trail Pass to be rather a bit too watery, lacked body and the bitter hop flavour was quite overpowering. It wasn’t undrinkable but I personally think there are a lot better ales out there.
Hot off the back of reviewing Desperados alcohol -free lager I’ve found myself opening up a can of Sierra Nevada’s non-alcoholic Trail Pass Golden.
Sierra Nevada is an American-based brewery founded by Ken Grossman back in the 80’s. Since then Sierra Nevada has gone on to create a full suite of different beers including IPAs, Porters, Stouts and most importantly (to this blog) four different alcohol-free beers including the ‘Trail Pass Golden’ I tried today.
To create their non-alcoholic beers Sierra Nevada use their traditional brewing methods but rather than remove alcohol their ensure their brews simply don’t go over the 0.5% ABV threshold.
So the question is will this be a ‘pass’ from me or a pass to a place on My Dry Bar? Well, you’ll just need to read my review below to find out.
Is Alcohol-free Sierra Nevada any good?
Taste
If I’m being honest I was expecting more from this Sierra Nevada beer, especially with the reputation they have with beer lovers. I found this alcohol-free Trail Pass to be rather a bit too watery, lack body and the bitter hop flavour was quite overpowering. It wasn’t undrinkable but I personally think there are a lot better golden ales out there.
Aroma & Appearance
You get some nice citrus hoppy notes when you crack open a can of Sierra Nevada Trail Pass. In the glass it has a dark amber look and a surprisingly generous frothy head.
