Review – Madri Zero is a non-alcoholic lager from the creators of Madrí Excepcional. Unfortunately, this beer didn’t hit the spot for me due to a strange malty sour aftertaste. Not one for me I’m afraid, plenty of better non-alcoholic lagers out there
Madrí (the traditional way of pronouncing Madrid) has been making waves in the UK over the past few years, popping up in pubs and supermarkets.
It was no surprise to hear that Madri has created a non-alcoholic version of their popular premium – ‘Madri Excepional Zero‘, which learned earlier this year.
Madrí Excepcional is actually produced by Coors with some involvement from La Sagra resulting in a light and refreshing lager.
They have used cutting-edge tech to remove the alcohol (normally 4.6% ABV) to create 0% version without impacting flavour or body.
So the question is, does this well-received beer translate well to a top non-alcoholic lager? Well, you’ll just need to read my review below to find out.
Is Non-alcoholic Madri any good?
Taste
As someone who enjoys a pint of Madri now and again, I had high expectations of this non-alcoholic beer, but it was really disappointing. Outside of the design and branding of the bottle there wasn’t much familiarity with the alcoholic version of Madri. I found that there was a strange taste that accompanied Madri Zero, a malty, sour one that didn’t work for me. I did finish off the bottle but it certainly is not one I’ll be going back to in a hurry, given the amount of other great non-alcoholic lagers out there.
Aroma & Appearance
To be honest the aromas from Madri Zero were more familiar to the alcoholic version than any other aspect with some pleasant hoppy tones. In the glass, it has a light amber colour and poured with a short frothy head.
