Cosmpolitan Review

When I first tried Highball’s Alcohol-free Cosmopolitan, I was excited to experience a classic cocktail without the alcohol. The drink presents a bright, inviting pink hue that instantly captures your attention, reminiscent of a traditional Cosmopolitan. On the nose, it offers a light, citrusy aroma with hints of cranberry, but I found the flavor to be somewhat one-dimensional. The expected tartness of lime is there, but it feels muted, overshadowed by a sweetness that borders on cloying.

As I took my first sip, I was greeted with a familiar flavor profile. The cranberry and lime are present, but the drink lacks the crispness and refreshing quality that a good Cosmopolitan usually possesses. Instead, it felt overly sweet and slightly syrupy, which detracted from the overall experience. I was hoping for a balance that would mimic the classic cocktail more closely, but it just didn’t deliver that satisfying complexity.

In terms of texture, the mouthfeel was pleasant enough, with a decent level of carbonation. However, I found myself wishing for more complexity and a clearer distinction between the flavors. The aftertaste was sweet and lingered longer than I would have liked, leaving me craving a more refreshing finish. It’s a drink that might work well in social settings, but I wouldn’t choose it for a quiet evening at home.

Highball has made strides in the alcohol-free cocktail space, and while the Cosmopolitan is a step in the right direction, it leaves much to be desired. As a vegan and gluten-free option, it’s accessible for many, but I feel it could benefit from a bit more refinement. Overall, it’s a drink with potential, but it doesn’t quite live up to the iconic status of the original.
