Drink review – The good news is that this Eisberg Cabernet Sauvignon wine is better than their Merlot with some interesting berry flavours. The bad news is it is not as good as some of the other non-alcoholic reds and most significantly it lacks body and is a bit too watery for my liking.
I’ve not had an alcohol-free Eisberg wine for a few years now and that’s partly due to how bad it was (see Eisberg’s alcohol-free Merlot review). However, it’s been a while and production techniques change so when I saw Eisberg’s alcohol-free Cabernet Sauvignon on Ocado I thought I would give it another chance.
If you’ve not heard of Eisberg before they are one the UK’s leading producers of non-alcoholic wine . There are currently ten different wines to choose from including a Chardonnay, Sparkling Rose, Pinot Grigio and of course the Cabernet Sauvigon I tried today.
Eisbery selects wines from their partner wineries across Europe and then uses vacuum installation which removes the alcohol from full-strength wine; attempting to maintain the textures and flavours.
So the question is, can this alcool-free Cabernet Sauvignon trump the poor performance of the Merlot? Well, you’ll just need to read my review below to find out.
Is alcohol-free Eisberg wine any good?
Taste
Well, there’s good news and bad news. Good news first, this Eisberg wine is better than the alcohol-free Merlot, I managed to finish off a glass and there are some interesting berry flavours. The bad news is it is not as good as some of the other non-alcoholic reds and most significantly it lacks body and is a bit too watery for my liking.
Aroma & Appearance
Taking off the screw cap you do get some bold red berry and peppery aromas coming from the bottle. In the glass, this wine pours with a dark ruby colour.
