Sentia GABA Gold Review

Sentia GABA Gold is a functional alcohol-free spirit from Sentia, the brand founded by Professor David Nutt. Rather than trying to replicate a traditional spirit exactly, it is built around a botanical blend designed to create a more relaxed, sociable drinking experience without alcohol.

On the nose, GABA Gold has a punchy citrus aroma with herbal and botanical notes underneath. In the glass it has a medium amber colour, which immediately makes it feel more substantial than many clear alcohol-free spirits.

I served it with tonic, ice and a citrus garnish. This is where it works best. The flavour is zesty, refreshing and layered, with lemony citrus, herbal bitterness and a slightly spiced finish. It is not a gin replacement, and it does not really taste like a classic aperitif either. It sits in its own space, which is part of the appeal.

The big question with Sentia is whether the functional side actually does anything. For me, I did feel more relaxed after about 15 minutes. It was not dramatic and it certainly does not feel like alcohol, but there was a noticeable calming effect. As always with functional drinks, individual experiences will vary.

Overall, Sentia GABA Gold is one of the more memorable alcohol-free spirits on MyDryBar. It is expensive, but it feels premium, distinctive and genuinely different from most non-alcoholic spirits.

⭐ MyDryBar Final Verdict

81/100

Sentia GABA Gold is a standout functional spirit because it does not feel like another weak attempt at an alcohol-free gin. It has its own identity: citrus-led, herbal, complex and genuinely refreshing with tonic.

The functional side is difficult to judge universally, but I did feel more relaxed after drinking it. That makes Sentia more interesting than many alcohol-free spirits, especially for people who miss the ritual and wind-down effect of an evening drink.

MyDryBar score: 81/100. A premium but genuinely distinctive alcohol-free functional spirit.
